Pow Wow 2024
This portrait series began in 2024 when I attended a local powwow and set up a small outdoor studio outside the main gathering hall. My intention was to capture the individuality, character, and quiet dignity of the people I photographed. As compelling as the portraits were, I felt they needed something more to fully express the spirit of the subjects. So placed in backgrounds in post-production,
The following year, I returned to another powwow to continue the series, photographing individuals from several different tribal nations, each wearing traditional regalia that reflected their distinct cultural heritage. What continues to fascinate me is the a sense of pride in their heritage, yet often a quiet reserve in their expressions.
Proud, yet unassuming. Strong, yet gentle. It is this beautiful duality that I hope to preserve in these portraits.
